Inflation is now affecting all sectors of activity, but not only that. It also affects users in their daily lives. So how will you travel by train in 2023? Let’s take stock.
Following on from the article Train VS Plane, which dealt with inflation and visualized the carbon impact of different modes of travel. Let’s see what changes in 2023.
During a press conference, the Minister of Transport, Clément Beaune, discussed the subject of a “price shield” with the SNCF, particularly on the TGV. This price shield aims to limit the extra costs for travellers.
Since November 2022, the SNCF has been working alongside the government to ensure that passengers do not suffer directly from the very significant increase in the price of TGV tickets.
In response to the rise in energy prices, the SNCF is increasing its prices by an average of 5%. Moreover, TGV tickets are now more expensive, but with exceptions.
Tickets for high-speed trains (TGV) are therefore increasing by 6.2%. On the other hand, intercity trains are up by 5%. For Regional Express Transport (TER), new costs will be set for each region. This price shield also aims to protect leisure and price-sensitive travellers. For instance, OUIGO travellers and Advantage cardholders will not be affected by this increase. (Source: TF1)
