The return of corporate events was in September! Good news for the recovery of business travel. According to the CCI Paris Ile-de-France, the number of trade fairs in Ile-de-France was equal to that of July to September in the same quarter as 2019. However, the number of exhibitors was lower and SMEs were the most present.
What is the outlook for the return of the event industry for companies?
Trends in corporate events
The return of corporate events is real. First of all, trade fairs are very popular with companies. This is what the figures for September in Ile-de-France say. Indeed, forty-eight trade fairs took place in September. Lately, we can count among them, trade fairs specialising in the tourism sector such as the IFTM which ended on Friday 8th October 2021. Moreover, “The results are extremely positive”, according to Frédéric Lorin, director of the IFTM Top Resa.
The recovery of business travel for corporate events
At the IFTM show, a section was dedicated to Business Travel. And to the surprise of the show director, there were more exhibitors than in 2019. Indeed, many tourism players think that the business travel sector will start again last.
Who are these business travel players ready to go again? Airlines, hotels, rental cars, digital travel agencies,… They all are.
New entrants to the business travel market are also appearing. This is the case of Ayruu, an application that centralises all your business travel reservations.
As Mauricio Prieto, co-founder of eDreams, points out, “The Covid-19 crisis will give rise to the next giants in the travel sector”. Let’s remember: Airbnb was born during the 2008 crisis.
This is our conclusion: the business travel sector is becoming a fintech. Employees on business trips are demanding more flexibility and customisation of services as they do for their personal travel.
