1. What is the COP27 event?
The COP27 was an assembly of more than 100 Heads of State and Governments and over 35,000 participants. A series of conferences about Climate Change to come out with decisions to accelerate global climate action through emissions reduction, scaled-up adaptation efforts and enhanced flows of appropriate finance.

3. Two important takeaways of the COP27
- Loss and damage
One of the decisions made during the conference is the agreement to provide “loss and damage” funding for vulnerable countries hit hard by climate disasters.
The UN Climate Change Executive Secretary Simon Stiell said “We have determined a way forward on a decades-long conversation on funding for loss and damage – deliberating over how we address the impacts on communities whose lives and livelihoods have been ruined by the very worst impacts of climate change.”
$300m new money is being pledged for loss and damage at cop 27 the question is who will receive the funds? and who will contribute?
- Keep global temperature within 1.5°C
After a difficult week of negotiations, Parties agreed that in order to limit global warming to 1.5C, adopting a clean energy solution is key. Such as reducing by 43 per cent the gas emission in the global greenhouse by 2030. However, keeping 1.5 degrees alive does not seem logical for people, seeing the increase in carbon emissions throughout the years.
